Established in 2011 by Emilie Magnus, OSL contemporary has developed an extensive program representing emerging and established artists. Working closely with local institutions, the gallery focuses on nurturing artists within the Nordic region: promoting their practice to a global audience through international participation in projects, exhibitions, and fairs.

OSL contemporary chose to invest in Artlogic in 2023. As a gallery with over a decade of legacy data, including artists, artworks, collectors, and inventory data, opting for a new platform to power the day-to-day operations, sales, marketing and running of the gallery wasn’t taken lightly.

  • The Challenge:

Recognizing the need for a comprehensive, all-in-one platform that would allow the gallery to operate efficiently, OSL contemporary reached out to Artlogic as a well known solution. “We were well aware of Artlogic’s increasing user base… As our daily workloads steadily increased, we needed to use a cohesive and integrated system that was efficient and user-friendly.” Herman Kim, Gallery Manager.

Data is business critical, and that safeguarding data is essential – Artlogic’s expertise in this area allowed the gallery to know with certainty that their data wasn’t just in safe hands, but in the industry’s most experienced hands. “Since the Artlogic team has had extensive experience in dealing with migrations, we approached this process with relative confidence” H K.

A swift process was a top priority for the gallery. And, as the gallery had a wealth of historic data, plus custom features and tailored data fields in their previous system that needed to be reflected in their new Artlogic platform, Artlogic’s technical team had to work with speed and efficiency to deliver a seamless migration: “We required [Artlogic’s] technical expertise and experience to ensure a smooth and orderly process” H K.

  • The Solution:

OSL contemporary was given Artlogic’s full support and attention, ensuring that the data migration process was both swift and elegant. Unique, custom fields were identified and mapped into their new Artlogic platform for greater accuracy and continuity.

The Artlogic team made sure all information was pulled across accurately, helping the gallery continue business as usual, OSL contemporary remarks: “Our overall experience of the migration process was smooth and effective, and we cannot recall any major issues… Any issues identified in the system were quickly addressed by the technical team” H K.

  • The Results:

Working alongside Artlogic’s team of technical experts minimized disruption to gallery’s operations: “The migration stage was not noticeably disruptive to our daily operations as we were still able to use our previous system during this period…the technical team were attentive, swift, and accommodating in their response to our feedback” H K.

Once the migration was complete, and OSL contemporary were fully set up with their new Artlogic platform, the gallery found the benefits of using Artlogic to be “near-immediate, especially the perceivable increase in speed and improved user-friendly interface” H K.

For OSL contemporary, the choice to use Artlogic’s onboarding service was essential. Managing the transition in-house would have risked incomplete data sets, missing custom fields, and longer down-time for the gallery. Using Artlogic’s service meant that the gallery could continue to operate and did not have any data loss or data leakage during the migration.

“We are still discovering all the integrated functionalities and look forward to using a single platform for the versatile tasks required when running a commercial gallery” H K.
